Toshiba C50-A, will not boot on battery

Recently my laptop will not boot unless plugged in, the battery is fine otherwise, shows full charge, runs for a long time on battery. it will wake up from sleep or hibernate but if it was fully shut down I have to plug in when I hit the power button.

I can unplug straight away after hitting power button & all will boot up fine.

I suppose I could try buying another battery but seems like a waste when this one is working fine otherwise.

Have you been inside the device at all? I ask because if you have moved, bent, etc., anything connecting the battery, this may limit the power coming from it at start.

Try the following and see if it will allow turning on with just the battery after. Also, please make sure nothing else is connected the the laptop when you do this.

1. First make sure the device has been charged.
2. Unplug your charger cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds and see if the device will turn on.
5. If it does, great, now plug back in the power/charger cord. (If it didn't turn on without the cord in, it should turn on once you it is in. Yes sometimes they will turn on, or try to turn on, even with nothing attached/plugged in.)
6. Now put the battery back in.

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately did not work. It didn't try to start with nothing connected, started with just power & no battery but still not starting from battery.

Have you checked your boot settings as well as power settings to make sure it has not restricted starting on battery alone?

Sometimes, if the batteries output is lower than the output you get from being plugged in, the system won't boot. I would test that.

Ok, will see what I can find in there. Would this be in the settings found on starting by pressing f10 or whatever it is on this machine?

Boot settings are found in BIOS, when you start up the computer. But if you are not familiar with it, it is best not to mess around in there. It can do a lot of harm should you change/alter the wrong thing. I would suggest learning more about it (there is tons about it online) prior to accessing it.

Thanks, I have looked at revising boot disk location etc but nothing complicated in there so will look further.
Power options in Windows all look fine.
