Toshiba L310 Recovery

I have XP Pro installed. I am going to format the hard drive and install Win7 Pro. Am I correct that formatting the hard drive does not affect the key on the motherboard in case I have to go back and install XP Pro with the recovery disc?

what do you mean when you said "Key on the motherboard"? did you meant "formatting the hard drive doesn't affect anything key to the motherboard" then yes, you just have to re install the drivers , unlike when using recovery disc it's an image of the hard drive when you first bought it.

I have read that the license key for the OS (XP Pro) is embedded on the motherboard, so when you use a toshiba recovery disc it recognises the OS as genuine. I want to make sure that this embedded key is not destroyed by formatting the hard drive.
