My sister has Toshiba P200 series laptop and her OS is working improperly, so I want to format her HDD and install Windows 7.

Computer rarely boots from DVD successfully, it usually just shows black screen and nothing happens. And if it does reach installation menus, it shuts down after a few steps - when computer is collecting information or something similar.

Her laptop came with Vista Home Premium. Is it possible that I can only install this type of OS? I tested the Win7 DVD on my own computer (desktop) and it boots without problems, all installation steps are working.

What could be wrong?

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS to allow booting from the DVD drive? Does the DVD drive read CDs abd DVDs normally?
