The system started to constantly shutting down or switching to sleep mode, uncontrollably. It looks like as if I am pressing the power button either pressing and holding it or just single clicking.
I suspect that the power button may be somehow defected or it may be something else.

Any ideas? Thank you!

In windows adv power options you can set the power button press to do nothing (while in windows) This should help determine if it is the button causing the problem thou I suspect you are right.

Thank you for your answer. I have tried that and unfortunately my laptop keeps on shutting down. But I am pretty positive that the power button is still related to the problem. Another detail that I have forgotten to add here is that the system was turning on without me touching it when I leave it on "hibernation" or on "sleep" mode (before this major problem started about a week ago).

Ebay seems to have replacement switches for a good price. Seems to be just turning screws and 1 connector to install it.
