Trouble identifying error

So my laptop fell quite a distance, now when I turn it on it goes to the acer boot logo, will not load bios or continue past that point, but when the harddrive is removed I can access the bios and even boot into windows 7 installation cd. Any ideas what maybe wrong ?

you killed the hard drive so bad (rip old drive)....that it hanging the laptop chipset/controller. you best bet is buy a new drive and if you want to try and recover your data one of those usb to sata/ide kits on new egg. it may work but as your say the drive is hanging the mb.

Put a new hdd in it and it's working great thanks for your help
