Trying to Achieve true 5.1 surround sound with Logitech Z906 Speakers & 55" Sony xe8096

Hi ,

I have a SONY XE8096 55" 4k Ultra HD TV and the Logitech Z906 5.1 surround sound speaker .

I connect logitech z906 and my tv with optical digital cable .


Will digital optical cable pass 5.1 sound to logitech ?


In Sony manual it says :

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) -

Two channel linear - PCM , Dolby Digital , DTS


HDMI -

Audio :

5.1 channel linear - PCM , Dolby Digital Plus and DTS .

Optical will work. PCM will be stereo so set to Dolby/DTS
To use HDMI-ARC you would need an HDMI-ARC audio extractor to provide a compatible output for the speakers input. That could output 5,1 pcm or Dolby Digital Plus which the optical won't. Not sure it matters in this case.
