Trying to connect a sound bar to a magnavox tv

Connecting a sound bar to magnavox tv. Still getting sound from tv. Cannot find a way to turn off internal speakers. Help!

There should be a menu that you can do that. If the sound bar is connected via optical audio then you can just turn the volume down since the optical out is not usually controlled by the TV volume.
