A/V Setup:

Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray connected to:
Yamaha RX-V565 AV Receiver via HDMI
Yamaha 7.1 Speaker System (hardwired)

When I do the auto speaker setup/calibration on the Yamaha it correctly recognizes all of the speakers.

When I play a Blu-Ray disc the surround back speakers are not active. I have a AV calibration disk and when I play the speaker identification part it correctly recoginzes and plays a sound sequentially through all the speakers EXCEPT the surround back right and left speakers. The sound for those speakers comes through the surround right and left speakers respectively (which is not correct!).

I have tried a number of different combinations of audio settings on the Sony and Yamaha to no avail.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here is a list of US Blu-Rays with 7.1 sound. Are you playing source material with 7.1 sound? If not then the receiver will have to be setup to create a "phantom" rear surround channel.

Not sure if this is it but on the AVR, is the surround rear set to off/none? I'd think that if you went through YPAO that they should have been turned on, but that may not be the case.
