I recently got a new Asus laptop which has a built in Realtek HD Audio Manager. I found that once I plugged in my headphones, a pop-up window asked me what device I had plugged in. It worked for about 5 minutes, then for some reason, it stopped. I have confirmed that the headphones do work with other devices, and I have tried another set with the laptop to no avail.

I've had the same problem. Open up the Realtek HD Audio Manager, click 'Device Advanced Settings' in the top right, a pop-up will appear. In the pop-up, change the setting from Classic mode to Multi-stream mode.

I actually found a solution to this.

I rolled back the audio driver, then i plugged in my headphones to test if it worked, and they did. After this I found that the mic had stopped working, so I updated the same rolled back driver, and now my headset works seamlessly.
