i was gifted a sprint s5, contract ended from a friend. and i want to replace my old phone with this new one, will the unlock code work? i am currently with verizon. took it there, but they said it was locked and can't activate it. will the unlock code work?

As long as it's out of contract, unlocking is an issue we can discuss here; otherwise, this thread would have been removed.

You can't do any harm using an unlock code - the worst that can happen is it fails so go ahead. Here in England, any market place has one or more stalls where they do it for you. Maybe your neighbourhood has a business doing the same.,
