Unpredictable laptop keyboard and cursor

The keyboard seems wonky. I am a fast typist and for no reason at all, the cursor jumps around the screen or an unwanted keys. For example, when typing an email, the translation function suddenly appears or the cursor jumps to the beginning of the text. Any ideas?

Do you have a mouse? If so tape cardboard over your touch pad to temporarily disable and see if the problem goes away. Seen it many times.
