So here's the story.

Before updating my Macbook Pro to Yosemite, I would always used CMD+F1 to get the main desktop displayed on my external monitor because the MBP's screen is broken.

Now, after updating to Yosemite, when I do this, the external monitor only displays black, and my mouse can enter it from the left side. I can see my mouse on it, so there's definitely video output, but how can I get my main desktop displayed on it? Any tips/hotkeys that I'm unaware of in this new OS? Can't find anything online.

Thanks, will choose best answer.

I chose a best answer because you tried. Thank you.

The issue happened to be that the OS wasn't completely finished with it's installation and because of the monitor not showing that, we were unaware. Once everything was finished, it automatically corrected itself. Thanks again.
