I got my update for TTG on 1/5/05, but I got another update with the
same message on 2/20/05. Anyone else see this?

I also got another push of TTG on 2/20. It was accompanied by a
message that told me about TTG and all the wonderful features that were
added, even though I had been using TTG for some time. Oh, well. It
doesn't appear that it broke anything.

You had 7.1 before, now you have 7.1a.

I don't know fully what is different, but reportedly some bugs have been
fixed.

Menu nav is faster. That's all I can see.

I got 7.1a about 2 weeks ago. I just checked my daily call in and now
it says "Pending Restart".

Anyone know what this is?

If you've hacked your TiVo, you can use Tivoweb (or any other method
you're familiar with to access MFS) and check MFS/SwSystem to find out.

Otherwise, you can force the restart now and find out.

That DirecTV deigned it 'ok' to grant _any_ new features is a surprise.
Don't hold out for TivoToGo all in one shot ;)

It's not so much TTG as the other SDK features available in v7.

I don't know about that. I got the update on 2/10 and it was 7.1a and
yesterday O got it again.

I got a second update on two of my three TiVo's (a 540 and
a 240). They now say they're running version 7.1a02-2-540
and 7.1a02-2-240, respectively.

My third TiVo (another 240) still has 7.1a-01-2-240. (For
nitpickiness's sake, note that the hyphen after the "a" in
the first update version was removed in the second update.)

The message from TiVo that came with the second update was
worded the same as the first message -- announcing support
for TivoToGo, but with no mention of any additional features
or fixes in the second update (or even that the second update
=is= a "second" update).

It would be interesting to know if 7.1a02 fixes the problem
several people (myself included) saw earlier with unstable
wireless connections.

That's odd; mine went to 7.1-01-2-240 and then 7.1a-02-2-240 (with a
dash in both).

The last group of version digits identifies the TiVo manufacturer brand.

The second group of digits indicates the partition used.
The 7.1-01.... version ran from partition 1 and version
7.1a-02... is now active in partition 2.

As it turns out, I was wrong about the missing dash. It was there
all along, but it was hard to see on the TV sets attached to the
two TiVo's in my home that had received the update. Sorry about
any confusion I may have caused people over this issue.

My third TiVo got the second update (7.1a-02-2-240 -- this time I
got all the dashes right) last night.

FWIW, when my third TiVo got the latest update and tried to restart
itself, it froze on the "Welcome. Powering up" screen. I had to
pull the plug and plug it back in before it would finish installing
the update.
