Question Upgrade CPU | Toshiba Satellite L50-A-K2K

Can I change i5 3230M to i7 3940XM? I know that these CPUs have the same socket (G2/rPGA988), but I doubt that everything will go smoothly. Don't worry about cooling - the laptop has been used as a desktop PC for a long time.

Look at the power difference between the two. It may be that the laptop is not designed to provide that much more power. Ditto for cooling

By using a laptop as a desktop PC, I meant that it has tower cooling (why? - don't ask). As for the power, could you write about this in more detail?

There is not much more to say. The CPU you are proposing to use can draw about 20 watts more power. The laptop supply may or may not be able to provide that. No way to predict this in advance. Laptop power supplies are not like desktop supplies that usually have reserve capabilities. Trying to swap out the processor is risky unless someone who has actually done it can speak up.
