usb-c aorus gaming box "thunderbolt device functionality might be limited"

so my aorus gaming box is finally set up with my new dell xps 13. plug and play my arse... I'm currently getting an error "thunderbolt device functionality might be limited". I have no idea what's going on, the led's aren't lighting up, the fans aren't spinning but I can hear it hum slightly so it's definitely receiving power.

I also can't install the drivers as my laptop isn't picking up that there's a 1080 attached. anyone had problems like this? Any help would be appreciated!

im having the same issue with my acer aspire v nitro
have checked if it was a driver issue still havent found anything
