Here in the UK we regularly get 2+Mb/s almost anywhere in a built up (or village) area, and, the worst thing I get is the occasional notspot. (Which sadly my house borders very close to on my network, full speed, but occasional "dead hours"). I once got 3.5MB/s in a car, in the middle of a field. In fact, that was the ONLY time I got that high...[/citation]
That's because Britain is a tiny island, and so it is easy to provide high speed to the entire island.
On another note, I've always had verizon, and I've never had a dropped call. Not once. And I don't even have a fancy phone. The only place I've ever been where I didn't have a signal was Long's Peak, and I didn't need to call anyway.
