vga/hdmi dual screen not working

i want to do dual display on my HDTV and my acer monitor, Well my computer has a hdmi and a vga port. My hdmi connection is going to my Vizio HDTV and my VGA is going to my acer monitor. however my hdtv displays my computer and my acer doesnt. my acer wont stay on unless it detects a source and it doesnt detect a vga source. When i go into screen resolution settings it doesnt say there is a vga source.

Can your graphics card drive two displays at once? You should be able to check in Device Manager to see how many monitors have been detected.

Hmm I see that some can support dual monitors while some can not. But I can not find one that has vga/hdmi combo. If you are in windows 7 and you right clock the desktop background and go to screen resolution. Does it show two monitors are detected?

no it only shows one which is my tv. i manually told it to check vga and then i turn on my monitor and still no source detected
