I am preparing to purchase a laptop (Lenovo 440s) that has only VGA and mini-DP ports. No HDMI. I have a brand-new HDMI monitor that I want to connect to the proposed laptop. The salesperson claims that a converter will solve my problems, but I have a hard time believing that the VGA port will deliver either digital *or* audio signal through a converter - no matter what HDMI cable might await it on the other side. Am I missing something?

I have a Cyelee converter purchased through Amazon to use with a Toshiba laptop and Sanyo TV. So far I can only use the "s" video output with a resolution 1024X768, that is the best res. I can get. The converter specs say it supports up to 1920X1080@60hz. Also I swapped a HP8460 laptop for the Toshiba, no success. Good luck.
