You're Russian? Are you in Russia? I wouldn't have a clue as to the free
WiFi hotspot situation there. Here (US) there are free and pay and it
matters a great deal where you live. In my town there are dozens of pay
sites, Starbucks, Hotels, etc, but few free ones. Other places nearly the
whole town is blanketed with free WiFi.
As for screen shots. I'd recommend just going to google and checking the
reviews. Many have screen comparisons. I have never been very good at taking
pictures of PPC screens, and I don't think screen captures really give you a
good comparison. You must understand that my wife and I are at reading
glasses stage in our lives, so what may be hard for us may be perfectly
acceptable to you and your wife's eyes.
When it comes down to it, $314 (X30Hi) to $449(X50v) is a big difference,
and if the major requirement is e-books there is nothing wrong with the $279
X30Mid. Mine works just fine. I see the X30 struggle more with video
playback with it's 312Mhz processor, but it also is easier on the batteries.
I can tell you the X30Mid does Skype just fine, regardless of their 400Mhz
requirement. It even has a BT Headset profile so you could use a BT headset
with it. It has a healthy Built-In-Storage area, so you can load e-book
readers in user ROM, and store all your books on flash cards. $170
($449-$279) will buy a lot of reader programs and flash cards. WM2003SE on
the X30 will do landscape and portrait, and while the device is a box, it
stands up very nicely in either orientation, which has advantages over the
nicely rounded form of the X50 in some situations.
Whatever you get, it is not going to be obsolete and unusable when the next
model comes out, and I wouldn't hold my breath on any of them being
upgraded. Assume you get what you get, and if it works for you, it will
continue to work for you, for many years actually. There are always posts
from folks just now giving up their Jornada 548s after 4-5 years of use.
