vga to hdmi

I have the vga cable hooked to my laptop and the hdmi cable hooked to the monitor the screen on the monitor says check video cable can someone help

VGA is analog. HDMI is digital. The two are different and you cannot get it to work with a simple cable adapter.

The easiest solution would be if the monitor has a VGA connection, then you can use a standard VGA monitor cable. However, if the monitor does not have a VGA connection, then you need a VGA to HDMI converter; something like this...SYBA VGA to HDMI Converter.
