Video issues with VLC

Whenever I try playing certain mp4 video files that I've made myself on Sony Vegas the picture seems to move somewhat slowly it kinda freezes every couple frames for just like one frame it doesn't stop and start and there aren't any distortions in the picture. It isn't the video files I've tried playing them on a couple other players Windows Media, the new "Video" option on windows 8, Sony Vegas itself, etc and it plays fine so it has to be the VLC player. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling VLC and it fixs the problem for awhile but sooner or later it happens again. I don't mess with any of the settings either.

Not much to do here, unless you play around with the file options when you make the video. Can try updating the codecs on the system.
