My dad got this TV about 5 or 6 months ago and he has had no issues with it at all. The TV would probably be on for about 3 to 4 hours a day maximum. About a week ago, he was watching something and right before his eyes the picture went out (no popping noise or any electronic failure sound). Audio was going through Home Theatre system which continues as the TV speakers had been set to off.

When powering the TV on, The power light comes up and seems to be solid with a slight flickering. The back-light comes on but the display remains black. When using the volume buttons on the TV or remote, the back light will brighten and then fade to normal brightness. At this point I assumed the video board might be bad, and that there really wasn't any power issue. However, at the cost of the TV and the components only costing about $60, I bought a replacement power board and Video Board, none of which solved the problem.

My next bet is to buy a T-con board, but everywhere I've seemed to look doesn't really show that this will solve the problem. I have even tried resetting the TV via button combos but nothing seemed to do anything. Could the actual display have gone out?? Please, if anyone has any suggestions for us to try it would be much appreciated! And we no longer have the receipt to this TV so I dont think there is any way to return this for repairs. Thanks again!!

.quotemsg=16416506,0,2055734]I got a new 70 inch from vizio after my black Friday tv went out. First I called vizio and they said I needed a receipt and sent me an email wit a link and case number to send a copy of receipt . Called walmart, gave them the date, and method of payment for the tv. They reprinted my receipt. I emailed the receipt to vizio. They delivered my new 70 inch tv one week ago. I was never rude and neither were they. [/quotemsg]

quotemsg=16490328,0,2066037]I also have a Vizio E701i-a3 that had the picture go out on it. Called Vizio and they gave me the same line that there was nothing they can do and that I should shell out more money on a new Vizio TV. The sound and backlight are still working so I attempted the repair and bought a replacement T-Con board gambling that was the probelm. Just installed the new one today and the picture was working! Unfortunately that lasted for only a few minutes before the picture faded out again and back to where I started. Any idea what would be frying the T-Con boards?[/quotemsg]

is there a recall from Vizio for the e701i-A3 ? I'm out of the extended two year warranty by aprox 40+ days. Purchased from Walmart Black Friday 11/28/13. TV went out two days ago.
Spoke with Vizio Tech Support they set up case #. they say they can't do anything, to far out of warranty. they offered discount price of another TV. about $600 off. I would like to know if there is another solution

This is a copy of an email I sent VIZIO shortly after my 70" crapped out in January 2016......VIZIO's ignorance in dealing with this defect needs action........A CLASS ACTION

On 11/28/2013 I decided to purchase one of your E-series 60 or 70” TVs (Specifically E701i-A3). In short, like thousands of other customers, the transistor on the T-Con board has shorted out after only 2 years & 2 months. There seems to be no fix for this defect as the problem lies within one of the televisions 2 drivers and will only continue to fry new T-Con panels/or transistors shortly after installation. This has proved to be one of the worst investments I ever made and I don’t need to get into more detail regarding the defect as Vizio is well aware of the problems associated with the large E-Series sets. As a corporation in the United States, Vizio has the responsibility to ensure their products are free of manufacturing/design defects and if discovered must take the appropriate action to resolve the issue. As stated earlier Vizio is well aware of this defect that causes these models to lose picture and has taken the below actions, which I find highly insufficient.

1) Extended the original 1 year warranty to 2 years. This action shows that Vizio acknowledges there is a manufacturing defect present in many of the TVs. What is unclear is how they determined that extending the warranty 1 additional year is an acceptable resolution. What happens when it goes after 2 years & 2 months? From what Customer Service has told me “It’s unfortunate but electronics have problems, there’s nothing we can do you’re out of warranty”. WELL……. I understand issues arise all the time but in this particular case this is a defect that has already been acknowledged by Vizio and affects a large group of high end televisions ($1,000-$1,800). Just because mine took a little bit longer to crap out than some of the others does not mean it isn’t still Vizio’s responsibility to provide the public with products free of defect or take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation. SIMPLY PUT A LIFE SPAN OF JUST OVER 2 YEARS FOR A TV RANGING IN COST FROM $1,000-$1,600 IS NOT ONLY UNACCEPTABLE IT IS ALSO UNETHICAL.

2) During the warranty period (2 years) if your television had this defect Vizio replaced the entire TV at no extra charge and paid for shipping. Another example that Vizio knows there was defect that can’t be fixed, further validating my above statements. Like I said this is a satisfactory resolution for those lucky enough that their TV went within the 2 years however provides absolutely nothing to those of us who made it just over that mark.

3) I was offered a new television at a discounted rate, I think $1,500 for one that usually sells for $1,800. This has to be a joke? Wait it isn’t? Your serious? I would have to be absolutely insane to purchase (or recommend) another Vizio…..I just bought one 2 years ago for $1,000+ which through no fault of my own is now garbage and Vizio has nothing to say about it!!

With the majority of these models being purchased around 2013 Vizio is bound to get more and more customers with a similar experience to mine. After hours with customer service yesterday Vizio’s stance is clear to me, “Sorry but you’re out of warranty, there is nothing we can do and it cannot be fixed.” I refuse to accept this answer and lay down to Vizio as a corporation. If no further actions are taken by Vizio I am fully committed (and have already begun) pursuing a Class Action lawsuit as well as filling complaints with the Better Business Bureau.

If you made it this far, I thank you for your time to listen to my concerns/complaints and hope that you can understand my frustrations. It’s important to note that these frustrations are shared by thousands who have experienced an identical situation.

The only fix i know of is removing one of drivers. The TV has a left & right driver each of which run at 50%. Removing the bad one (usually the right side when looking at tv) will restore the set to its' original picture. This is irreversible but the only fix I've seen. Your TV now work in a "compromised" state with the left driver doing all the work and running at 100%. Im guessing this will lead to a shorter life span but hey its better than throwing it in the garbage.

Are these TVs worth anything, or do I just need to make sure I don't break my back throwing it in the trash?
Vizio is worthless again. Purchased the 70" in May 2013, and it goes out a little over a year later; and I didn't have the extended warranty. Called Vizio up in Mar 2015 when I read about some people getting a replacement. Got told my serial # didn't work LFTRNXBP1800955, and pretty much had no recourse. Was going to get rid of it this year, but read these blogs that Vizio was now making good on these TVs, so I tried again earlier this month, but now Vizio tells me it is out of the two year warranty extension, and they couldn't find a record of my first call. So I spend a bunch of time and find the original case #, but when I call back today, they are going to tell me they have no way of extending the warranty even though the TV broke, and I reported, within the 2 year timeframe!!!

Vizio E701i-A3e
Same problem, picture quit, sound still on.
ALSO BOUGHT FROM WALMART BLACK FRIDAY (Thursday11/28/13)
Anyone else notice how many complaints are coming from same purchase source?
Did Vizio dump these bad sets on WAlmart or did Walmart get a "deal" on bad merchandise for their sale.
No bargain at $1100 for 2 years and 3 months.

Our 70 inch did the same thing 2yrs 3 months old. I hope the class action lawsuit takes off. These sets should have been recalled. It's terrible reading about everyone that lost money on this junk product.

Mine just went today. Blacked out from the edges in, like a Looney Tunes cartoon. Bought 11/28/2013 at Walmart. Called Vizio and was basically told that it's out of warranty and gave me a number to call for repair.
