I've tried uninstalling and re-installing... deleting the %appdata%/vlc folder... and rebooting. Double clicking does nothing. I cannot get to preferences or anything because the program literally won't start. It doesn't even show the process as running on Task Manager. Checked default apps and it is my default video player. Not sure what else to do.

That is the site.

The error codes may not deal with VLC specifically. What can happen is a bug in another app or some software conflict between another app and VLC occurs. End result is that VLC "loses".

You still have options. Check the VLC support pages...

http://www.videolan.org/support/#help

You might read something that will be relevant to your computer's setup and configuration. Hopefully some directly applicable fix.

Look at any error codes that occur just before or at the time of the failure to boot.

Temporarily remove other apps from starting at boot time. In other words, simplify and reduce the workload on the computer while also elimininating possibe software conflicts.

No error messages or pop-up Windows?

You might find some additional information via Event Viewer. Check the logs for error codes, warnings, or informational entries.

Reference - this link within this forum:

Also verify the source of your VLC Player download. There are many "fake" sites that attempt to trick you into downloading something other than what you truly wish to download. You may have a corrupted copy, an old copy, or something entirely different.

Watch the URL information that appears when you mouse over a link or button. Avoid any links or button that do not present that information.

No pop ups were happening until last night when I decided to uninstall my most recent Windows update from March 30th (KB3150513). Someone from another forum suggested that I download a different update from March 20th (KB4015438) -- but that didn't fix it either. However, when I double click on the VLC program now, it will give me a pop-up that says "Ooops: VLC media player just crashed. Would you like to send a bug report to the developers team?" When I click "Yes", I get another pop-up moments later that says "Report sending failed. There was an error while transferring the data to the FTP servers. Thanks a lot for the help."

I checked the Event Viewer and obviously found a bunch of informational entries, and some error codes -- but looking at those codes, I didn't find any that seemed to deal with VLC specifically. :/ Not sure what I should be looking for there.

Finally, the source I re-downloaded VLC from was here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html -- which I believe is the official site.
