VMware: how do I change apsect ratio to stretch

So what's going on is my screen resolution is set at 1024x768 and on Vmware the aspect ratio appears to be 4:3 (meaning there's black bars on the side). On my computer when I set it to that resolution the black bars aren't there but instead it stretches the entire screen. So how can I set VMware so that it always stretches the entire screen instead of making those black bars on the side.

did you install VMWARE tools in your virtual machine?

So I installed VMware tools and I still see those black lines. So what do I do now?
