Want to use the mic on my headphones on my computer

Is there a way to split the microphone and the headphone parts of the headset I have?

It works with my ipod for calling and on skype.

But I want to use it since I don't have any other headphones and it has a microphone built in.

The microphone is on the other side of the big silver thing with a round button

Alternatively, is there possibly a port on my motherboard that supports this type of headset?

maybe an adapter that you can plug the jack into, and there will be two jacks coming out.

try radio shack for the adaptor.
