Hey guys. I'm 18 and driving myself crazy trying to find a new laptop for college. Since I don't want to have to tote my desktop back and forth when I come home on weekends I'd like to have the portability to play on a laptop but also take to class as well. Since my parents are going to order it for me the budget needs to stay under $2400, but it needs to be a laptop that will last me for years as far as it comes to games. My 2 options i've been looking at are the Sager NP8660 or the Alienware M17...this is just so frustrating please help!

No laptop will last you more than a year or maybe two in running the latest games, as graphics technology changes so quickly. Better to get a mid-hi-end laptop for $1400, and build yourself a nice gaming desktop for $700 or so. Then in a couple of years, buy a new graphics card for the desktop.

Also, you would get REALLY tired of lugging your big heavy hot uber-gaming laptop all over campus, that is if someone didn't steal it first.

Yeah, an Alienware M17 is almost 12lbs. Try carrying around a 12lbs weight for a while and see if that's fun.

As Mondoman suggested, get a desktop and a laptop. The desktop will be easy enough to upgrade to keep up with games and it'll be really cheap compared to buying a new gaming laptop.

As for the laptop get something like the Lenovo Y560 with a Core i5 and nVidia GT 555 for $830 + tax for your portable gaming needs.
