Webkit Use by Google Chrome, Apple Safari Could be Next IE6

Yes! Testing Opera 12 alpha right now and it would be much appreciated to other browser users like me, to keep the Internet open for all of us.

It's just a bad idea for web designers NOT to test with IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera (maybe others, too).

On the other hand... Comparing Chrome to IE6 is a low blow. Comparing it to Safari is even lower.

Yes.. because companies are implementing websites designed only for webkit. :sarcastic:

If they are, it's their own damn fault for doing it wrong.

Maybe because webkit is much, much more standards-compliant than ie was? Are they saying that we should be supporting an outdated deprecated browser? Usually those "few extra lines of css" are on the order of activex proprietary windows crap to make older ie work.

No you did not understand, the idea is for devs to use standardized features and stop using webkit only features exclusively.

I recall running into a webkit-only website, completely broken on all browsers except for Chrome or Safari.

That strongly reminded me of IE6-only websites. Broken on every single browser even with IE7's and IE8's compatibility mode on. I pity the owners who wonder why their membership continue to decline no matter what they do.

The fact that Glazman has been a long time Mozilla-only developer doesn't bother anyone in this picture?

In a call to action, Glazman is asking web designers to stop designing websites for Webkit only, "in particular when adding support for other browsers is only a matter of adding a few extra prefixed CSS properties."

Relax, the entire China is still using IE6 on Windows XP. Besides, supporting other browser means web designers should spend more hours that their clients refuse to pay.

Maybe it's time for W3C to die anyway.

What's more important is a call to arms against IE6-8.

Having a signifigant population with ancient browsers stifles the advancement of the web more than anything else.

This, not to forget that most of India is a,so using ie6+WinXp.
unless those bastards stop using ie6, webkit can never win.

W3C and IETF, in which all browser makers have representatives.
