what processor should i get for my toshiba satellite a305d-s6848?

i have a toshiba satellite a305d-s6848 that i am trying to upgrade. the motherboard number is GM690MC. I am trying to figure out what processor is compatible. i know that it is an amd motherboard and i wish to purchase a newer amd processor. amny suggestions? and how should i determine whether its compatible? I cant seem to find the socket type

I would really encourage you to do more research. I believe that the 754 socket is really old and nothing new will fit in it. Not even with a hammer. For sure, the 754 socket has - you guessed it - 754 pins. All the sockets which came after it (939, 940, AM2, AM2+, etc) had ~940.

I believe that MoBo has the 754 socket, which dates back to 2003.... I don't think you're going to find CPUs still for sale which fit that socket. At a certain point, you're throwing good money after bad... I think you should start anew.

thats what i was starting to think but then i got to looking and i found one that fits a am1 socket. if my research os correct (which is quite possible NOT correct) then a am2 would work.
