Ok so I was going to get a laptop for school and for gaming... my budget is 800-900 I have a nice desktop for real intense gaming(bf3 and so forth) the games that i was hoping to play on this would be games such as minecraft/tekkit/stragtegy games like total war games, and really games like dungeon defenders or anything like that.

Thanks for the help! :D

The best bang for buck is the Asus G74 series. It's a full 17.3 inches, 1080p (very much recommended for school work), comfortable to use (again, school work), not too heavy, and has some decent hardware for gaming. It will run you a bit more than 900 but can be found for a little bit under a grand before taxes.

First off thanks for you replys!

Pinhedd-
Can you please give me a link to where i could buy one of these because i do like it from what the asus page says

Junky77-
Other than gaming no not really I may upload videos and browse the internet often but other than that no. Again this will be light gaming because for any game that is more demanding(a game like crysis or somthing like that i have a nice desktop to compensate for that) but I do want to have smooth fps in tekkit as well that is pretty demanding for a laptop or a desktop for that matter

Thank you again for the help! :D

and you don't need extra long battery time?

If not, I suggest that you go for a cheaper laptop around 500-700$ top. 700$ - if you want a FullHD screen. 500-600$ if not.
Do you need a FullHD screen?
Yeah full HD screen(im not paying for this so really like i said 800-900 best one that i can get) and a long battery life would be nice

well i see what you mean... also really just the most comfortable(nicest screen/keyboard, and has the gaming capacity to play games like minecraft or dungeon defenders easily)

A good sized keyboard and nice screen are absolutely essential for school work. Trust me, I've spent more than enough years in post secondary education to speak authoritatively on this matter. Cheap laptops tend to spend as much time in the repair shop as they do as a study aid.

Newegg has a few that are refurbished, and of varying degrees of quality

Check your local computer shop and see if they have it. Even call Asus to see if they can point you to a retailer. They're last gen tech which means that they're being cleared out to make room for new stuff. Make no mistake though, they're very good.

I like the dv6z
and your saying that this can play any of the games i was stating flawlessly?

Linhedd-
Yeah i see what you mean a screen/keyboard is very important so thank you for the links... why do they get such bad reviews?

Newegg reviews are written by religious fanatics. Statistically, Asus has the most reliable laptops in the industry.

OK... thank you

junky-
really these games should not be that hard to run though :/

Pinhedd- Alright I see that there a trusted brand... what kind of keyboard is on that? like a mechanical or what

Mechanical is overrated fanboy fluff. It's a standard 104+ key electrical keyboard.

Don't buy a 17" laptop if you plan on carrying it around. Get a 14" , as they are way more portable. If you pull out your 17" laptop you'll have to put two coffee tables together just to use it. It's massive. (thats what she said)

I have a 17.3 inch Alienware laptop, it's a bit hefty but I'd never swap it for anything smaller.

You will probably be closer physically to your laptop than you are to your monitor. 17.3 is fine for me but I wouldn't want to go any smaller.
