What's the best way to charge a device from a USB port on a PC without the device attempting to interface?

I have an mp3 player that I listen to when on the desktop because it has superior sound quality. I would like to use the computer to charge it, but of course when I plug it in it stops playing and simply displays the fact that it is connected to the computer. Is there a simple way to avoid this?

Don't use the computer to charge it, use a wall charger or something else. If it only gets power and not a USB connection, it won't stop playing.

Try to "Eject" it from the computer, without disconnecting it.
Or get / make an USB cable where only two outer pins are connected (some USB battery packs are actually sold with such a cable).
