Hi everyone. So I'm looking to get a new hp laptop and I've decided to go with the envy series. I have around $700 to spend (max) and I was able to build to similar envy's for that price after coupons. Could someone give me some guidance on which would be better? I will mainly use the laptop for school work and then gaming during the summer. Games include left for dead, planet side 2, second life, assassins creed 2 and Garry's mod. Please let me know what you think or if I could get a better bang for my buck in another laptop. (No dells please)

The Core I5 with the GT 740M is better. The Processor is definitely faster than the A10 and the graphics are too.

The second article states: "Thus, the A10-5750M would place roughly at the level of a Core i3-2330M (Sandy Bridge)." It's comparing the A10 to last generation's part of a lower speed tier.

There graphics have the same number of shader cores, but the GT7 40M on the I5 Intel are clocked faster and you can see in the 3DMark 11 - Performance 1280x720 benchmarks on that page that the GT 740M are roughly 40% faster.

The a10 is a really crappy CPU and will definitely hold him back in PS2, practically to the point of unplayablility. There are reviews of the a10 with a 8970m (GX60) and certain games such as Hitman, Gw2, Need for speed, were basically unplayable on low, being held back by the CPU.

If the 8750m has GDDR5 then it will be faster. If the 740m has a 64 bit DDR3 bus, the 8750m will be faster. If both are using 128 bit DDR3, then the 740m has a small leg up.
