Hi,

I'm buying a laptop for my son who wants to use it for minecraft, netflix, web browsing.

Originally I looked at http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-15-g261sa-15-6-laptop-blue-10108825-pdt.html#cat-0 but was then told it doesn't have the power to run minecraft.

The alternatives I've looked at in a higher budget range are
http://www.johnlewis.com/hp-15-laptop-intel-core-i3-8gb-ram-1tb-15-6-/p1855442?colour=Red
and http://www.ebuyer.com/705955-hp-455-quad-core-laptop-l8b56es
and http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-notebook-15-r150sa-15-6-laptop-black-10034877-pdt.html#cat-0

Which one of these is the best laptop for my son's uses or are there any other better ones out there in the same budget?

Thanks in advance.

I would go with the HP 455 laptop from ebuyer.com.

The A10-7300 and it's integrated graphics core will be more than enough to play Minecraft and it seems to be relatively inexpensive. Any basic laptop can be used to watch Netflix and do web browsing.

This one comes with the Ubunut operating system. Is this compatible with everything I listed?

I never used a Linux OS before. Sure you can use it for surfing the net, but I am not exactly sure if you can use it to watch Netflix on it, you should do some Googling for that. Minecraft is made only for Windows... especially now since Microsoft paid something like $2.5 billion for Minecraft.

My advice is to avoid any laptop that uses a Linux based OS unless that is something your son want to learn and play around with. For less headaches and vastly better support you should stick with Windows because if you run into an issue with Linux you will need to reach out for support from the Linux communities which are generally helpful, but it may take time and effort to resolve.

Thanks for your advice so far. So out of the other 3

a6-5200, radeon hd8400, 4gb ram @ £249.99
i3-5005u, hd5500, 8gb ram @ £329.95
i5-4210u, hd4400, 6gb ram @ £349.99

(they all have 1tb hard drives and are similar in other specs).

Obviously being the one paying for it I'd like to buy the first one but I don't want a false economy of buying one that is too slow to run anything in a year. After that the i3 is from John Lewis who offer a 2 year guarantee whereas the other only has 1 year guarantee

So I guess my questions is is the a6 viable? If not is the i5 considerably fatser than the i3 or is it an unnoticeable difference?

Thanks
