Why does hdmi ports go so fast

My TV is a flat screen element I just bought and have had cable with the hdmi port 3 for about a month and I turned on the TV and no signal so I moved it to port 2 hdmi and there it is I can see my cable again why would a new hdmi port go bad so fast?

If the hdmi port is faulty take it back. Make sure its in properly. Sometimes its not in far enough it wont give you a signal
