Why does my S6000 turn off without warning right after taking a picture?

My Nikon S6000 was purchased December 2010. The battery is original (4 years old), and is fully charged. I take a few pictures, and without warning the camera turns itself off. Any ideas why this is happening?

This usually happens when the battery is low or not making good contact. An old battery can appear charged, but go to dead quickly.
