I'm not sure, but I believe UD will sell your volunteered CPU time to companies. Last time I looked, they even tell you that on their website.

There's other places that resources can go to. Folding@home and Genome@home, SETI@home, distributed.net (at least you can actually make money if you're lucky).

I've never posted in here, I'm just suprised that THG is supporting UD instead of something more resonable.

Are you referring to the commercial web testing? You can turn that other stuff off (which I did when I realized what it was) so now I believe all my crunching is on the Cancer or Small Pox research projects.

But those tests are run by a certain company who gets to do whatever they want with the results you find...

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

Yeah, I see THG has a few teams. I figure they're scared to go against HardOCP at Folding@home. lol, those guys are monsters.

Team Anandtech partipates at a champion level team on the UD/Grid.org Cancer/Smallpox research too. They are close to the top 25 there.

They do not restrict participation to SETI.

We are helping Cancer Research at the University of Oxford, England and/or participating in Patriot Grid - Smallpox Reseach too. You can specialize one or the other if you like or do both ... one Work Unit at a time.

Yes - United Devices is a "for profit" contractor service just like a web host or ISP. The cancer research results are handled by a non profit organization. The University of Oxford, England
