wifi interface refuses to pop open

I bought a compaq presario laptop that came with windows 7. I enjoyed using it for a while, then i formatted it to windows 8. everything was good but the wifi. When ever i click the wifi menu it refuses to respond. i have done all updating process but all to no avail. i updated the wireless adapter but still it just wount respond. Can someone please help me out.

Have you tried to access it through the "Network and Internet" tab in the Control Panel, or whatever passes for the Control Panel in Windows 8?
