Last week I bought some JBL 4" bookshelf speakers and a Lepai LP-2020A+ amp to power them. I hooked them up and they sound great with pc games. But....they do lack in the bass area, so I want to get a compact 8" subwoofer to compliment them.
My motherboard is an ASUS P8Z77-V LK and has 6 audio ports on the back for front left/right, center/subwoofer, rear right and left, center, line in, and microphone.

So my question is, with my motherboard, if I hooked the input cable from a powered subwoofer up to the center/subwoofer output on the back of my motherboard, would it work correctly?
Or would my pc now play all dialog through the subwoofer?

If it won't work, that is fine, just want to make sure before I throw down $70 on a subwoofer.

Hi
That would work if you go into Realtek audio manager on your PC and set the speaker arrangement to 5.1 then uncheck every speaker apart from front left and right, and subwoofer.
Note that the connection center sub is a two channel (stereo) jack with sub on one channel and center on the other so you would need a 3.5mm 3 Pole jack(stereo) to two 3.5mm 2 Pole (mono) jacks .You would only use one of these jacks into the sub(only one will work if you have disabled the center in Realtek.
Also of note is that most powered subs have 2 sets of RCA connectors and that if you run a cable from your PC to your sub then from your sub to your speakers you will have a 2.1 system without bothering with Realtek.
