Oh, and why exactly did they (Microsoft) even bother with Windows 7 32-bit? This is beyond me. You need a strong system anyway to get Windows 7 to work. No doubt it'll be 64-bit compatible, anyway.

Joshskorn.
Strong system?
What are you talking about? If you're running a 1ghz processor("min" requirement fro win 7) then you are living in the dark ages anyways......
RAM is cheap enough that there is no excuse to not be running 4 gigs or more

[citation][nom]mister g[/nom]Anybody else surprised that Win 7 topped out here? If you get a 1GB graphics card which 64-bit OS would you choose XP (hah), Vista or 7? Still if Valve has these statistics maybe they can add 64-bit games to their library soon and bring all the other game companies to shame (64-bit HL:E3 that looks and plays awesome anybody?).[/citation]

The only 64-bit game I've been conscious of was FarCry. In order to run the game on Win XP Pro x64, you had to download special 64-bit binaries. The textures were supposed to be more detailed, but since I couldn't run the 32-bit version, I really didn't know the difference. Hard to believe its been like 7 years since that game came out, and not a lot of 64-bit games have filled in the gaps (unless they do so quietly without telling you, but why would they do that).

Not exactly. You can run Windows 7 on a 2GB ram. It works and only consumes half of ram when you're surfing. Most office computers and laptops use 32bit system with 2gb ram.

I bought Civ V and it apparently uses Steam. This is before I knew it had DRM software like steam built in.

The only thing I like about steam is that any time there is a patch for a game, it is automaticly installed for you.

On that note, what all does steam collect from your computer, I don't sue people, but any information transfered from a person's personal pc is illegal. They really don't need to know the os, how much ram I have, etc.

I bought a brand new hard drive, installed it in my Netbook with 2gb of ram and installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit on it and it runs perfectly fine. I may not be able to edit 1080p real time video on it, or edit photo's in photo shop, but for web surfing, MS office, and viewing photo's it is actually pretty quick. GO Figure?

Then don't tell them. When the steam hardware survey popup appears, just close it.These stats are made from data taken from people that actually took the survey.

[citation][nom]CyberAngel[/nom]Win 8 will also be 32-bit slim (almost embedded) and full 64-bit UltimateLooks the same for NT 6.3...[/citation]

Didn't MS state that Server 2008 R1 would be the last 32bit O/S they ever made and that they are now a 64bit only company? Hence why no 32bit version of Server 2008 R2.

seriously, am i the ONLY person, who when ever i am forced to use windows 7 have to yell at it "@$^$ING WINDOWS 7"

EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL

there is not 1 thing i like about it. i do more on a computer than play video games, and if i have to make a choice between gaming and anything else, i chose the anything else. its sad i wont get battlefield 3.

[citation][nom]skaz[/nom]Okay steam, now give me a few bucks towards a game for using my personal information.[/citation]

I sure hope this is a poor attempt to make a joke or even possibly troll and not of pure ignorance. Hardware stats are voluntarily uploaded and shared on steam for statistical data and results are even shared with the public. Not only is it voluntarily done so Valve owes nothing to anyone for such but if you think about it all PC gamers greatly benefit by such a pool of knowledge as Dev's can find the averages and aim towards appropriate required specs while also aiming to give the best quality as possible.

The sad part of this post is that 22.7% still using XP after 10 years! It needs to die. Seriously. It was a piece of junk when it came out. It was a piece of junk after sp1. It was a price of junk even after sp2 almost turned it into a whole new OS. Granted it was cooler than Windows Millennium or 2000, and each sp gave it more life by making it slightly better, but that doesn't change the fact that you people still gripping at XP are just slowing down the tech industry. You're like the guys who used to go out and buy a new computer made for Windows 98 and install DOS and Windows 3.11 on there because it still "worked." The same people who back then would say, "Who needs more than 12MB of RAM? I have Windows 3.11 not that bloated RAM hog called 95 or 98!" all without batting an eye. You people are the cause of Crysis 2 and over a dozen other games being released recently with only DirectX 9 support. What a waste!

The worst part is that a lot of you probably have some example of modern hardware in that PC that is running XP and can't use all of the functionality of said device and you don't even realize it. Geez get over yourselves already. You don't have to be one of the "go getters" and switch to the newest thing as soon as it comes out, but at least put in the effort to let something that's dead die. Besides, half of the people on this site still running XP prolly aren't even running a legit copy of XP anyways. Sure maybe back in the day you bought a PC with it one there, but there is no way you still show up at this site for any reason and still be using a PC that has to be over 4 years old by now.

Whatever... you know what? What I'm doing is dumb. I typing all of this to explain to a bunch of retards why they are retards. I'm just gunna go bang my head against the wall because it will me more productive.

[citation][nom]sandivin[/nom]So where are all the 64-bit games?[/citation]
Thing is, games don't meaningfully translate to 64-bit. I'm a programmer in the games industry and can't think of any reason why we'd need 64-bits of accuracy in any aspect of our engine. It would cause an absolute nightmare trying to translate from 64-bit engine code to 32-bit API code (such as DirectX), for starters.

Apart from anything else, 64-bits doesn't necessarily imply more performance. In fact, slightly *less* performance if you're just shoe-horning it into an engine for the sake of having more accuracy. More bits stored = more bits to copy around in memory.

Lol that comment made my day, you can't be more right than that, well said.

Actually HL2 has a 64-bit version. If you run it on a 64-bit machine, you'll usually see little tag that says 64-bit in one of the corners (or at least it used to).

About time. I was starting to think x64 would never catch on. Lets hope Microsoft doesn't lose its balls and make Windows 8 and future products thereafter x64 like they said Windows 7 was going to be, except Vista flopped so they had to carry x32 for another generation.
