WINDOWS 8.1 Not Responding

Hi. my laptop was working normally. upon rebooting it, it displays the log in plane allowing me to enter the password and username. thereafter, it indicates 'please wait', which is subsequently followed by 'windows not responding'. please help coz this problem has made me to delay in delivery of my assignment.. i have tried all means and i would not want to lose my files...

my pc specifications are; Acer laptop, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd, windows 8.1 preinstalled, over 650gb still free, 1.5gh processor, quad core
 
Solution
Boot up your PC, keep pressing the f8 key many times
Select use last good known configuration

If this doesn't work, try pressing f8 at power on again
Select repair your computer
Open system restore
Restore back to the time before this issue started happening

None of these options appear, boot the system recovery disc or repair disc your pc came with, or create one in another computer, then complete the above steps
