Hi.

I am having issues with my Sony VAIO Windows 8 laptop. My system froze, I shut it down and when i load it up, I get the VAIO sign, telling me it's preparing to automatic repair, then the blue screen which asks me if I would like to troubleshoot etc.

Nothing works: reset, repair, system restore, troubleshoot, refresh. You name it.

When I try to reset, I am told to insert my windows installation or recovery media to continue. I reset my PC a couple months back, didn't get any such message like this.

Only thing I can access is command prompt. Can I reset using this?

What to do? Please help :(

Solution
Yes, using the command prompt may fix your problem since it sounds like your boot files got corrupted.

Try this in the command prompt
Type in
Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Reboot and see if this fixes it.
