I have a PPC 2003se machine, Audiovox 6600. When I go to www.google.com I
get the full blown web site, but apparently it has a mobile version, which
I'm able to bring up by going to http/www.google.com/xhtml. I'm guessing
the PPC 2003se's don't report them selves as a mobile device as if I go to
google on a phone it comes up with the mobile site automatically. Is there a
way to get IE to report it's coming from a wireless/mobile device?

Wayne,

It isn't so much an PIE issue as a website issue. PIE as all browser do,
indicates what version it is and some other bits of information. The
website can have code to then change the view and/or layout based on that
reported information. My site would be an example of this. If you go to my
site on your PC, you will see Google Ads. However, if you go to it on your
PPC, you won't. I have code on my site to prevent the Ads (which don't work
well on PPCs) from appearing based on the browser information reported back
to my site.

Clear as mud?

what it reported.

Wayne,

There is a way to do that. http/www.tweaks2k2.com is an applicaiton that
will "lie" and tell the website your browser is IE 6.0.

As to Google, I just saved the URL for the mobile version to my favorites:
www.google.com/palm

Many of my favorite sites support the pocket format very poorly or not at
all.

Hi Wayne,
First off, I have the exact same device as you, and I was able to
do what you're wanting. Problem is I don't remember the name of the
software I used to do it...but I have the install for it on another
PC (which I'll have access to tonight) and then I'll post the link
for it here.
The one I found did exactly what you're wanting, it reported the
browser as something else so you could use WAP pages. I did find
some other WAP emulators ... might try http/www.wap-shareware.
com/directory/wapemulators/ezoswap.shtml but I dont know if thats
quite what your looking for.
I left the one I found on my 6600 just for a couple of days & then
got rid of it. I didn't mess with it much but the problem I had was
that there was no real way to disable the stupid thing without
uninstalling it. Like I said I only messed with it for a short time
so perhaps its something I missed.

I think the 2nd one does the opposite of what you want, but the 1st
one should be what you're looking for I think....

Actually I think the OP is wanting something that already exists. PIE does
report itself as a limited browser and many sites recognize that and act
accordingly. Google, it seems doesn't distinguish between a PC and PPC but
does accomodate cell phones (smatphones?). Why not just go to the mobile
formatted google page and set it as a favorite. Changing the ID string is a
fairly permanent thing that will prevent those sites that have PPC formated
content from displaying it correctly if you change what is being reported.
