Dumb people deserve what they get for using the default security settings in facebook. I have mine set only for approved people to view my profile--and pics.

All you morons who think depresion is something trivial, well you're wrong. I wish you could suffer from it for one day, then you would stop making idiot statements.

The funny of the case is that my mother in law was denied of Disability insurance and she have a pinched nerve in the back and already had a surgery for that, and the problem got worse and they still denied the claim..

This shit Suck big thick all nasty lady hairy ass

and forgot to add that she can hardly move the right arm, and turn the head to the right..

While we don't have enough information from that article to properly diagnose her, one of the key requirements for a severe depression diagnosis is social withdrawal. The fact that this girl presumably attended and appeared to be happy at at least 3 major social events in a short period of time, is a severe contraindication to severe depression.

While the insurance company was rather rude to cut her off without a proper re-evaluation, most psychiatrists presented with such clear evidence or her enjoying social integration would also withdraw a severe depression diagnosis.

Remember, it's people who abuse the welfare/insurance system that results in higher premiums and taxes for the rest of us.

@aracheb just because your mother didn't get her disability insurance that doesn't mean this women shouldn't get hers either.

People are being extremely insensitive about this, depression is more than just being sad. And you can smile and even be happy while depressed, mood swings are a common part of depression.

I wouldn't wish depression on anyone, but if you were depressed or knew someone who was depressed you'd understand.

Medical evaluations are not based on arbitrary idea's, IE someone is sad/has mood swings and is therefor depressed.

Legally and medically, any sort of diagnosis must be based on empirical data, and if that's not possible, the patient must exhibit or fulfill certain requirements.

In the case of Severe depression, social withdrawal is one such requirement. Contraindication of this, IS a legal reason to invalidate a diagnosis of severe depression, much in the same way someone claiming to have brain cancer, yet has clear CAT scans would have their claim of having brain cancer overturned.

I work with depressed patients all the time, and if one of them told me they went to a party, had a great vacation and went to a strip club with friends, (i recall chipendales being a males strip club), I would medically and legally be unlikely to diagnose her as severely depressed barring some severe indications in another area.

what the heck is it with people and facebook these days? its like taking over people's lives and apperantly now ruining them too. ITS JUST A SITE i swear i hate facebook i wish it got shut down before some more weird shit happens.

[citation][nom]JWL3[/nom]And the rest of us who dutifully pay our premiums and never use it are the ones who'll be covering them.[/citation]
Well, that's exactly how insurance companies work. If everyone would be using it, the company will be brankrupt in days. Abuse is what makes the rates climb, but who are you to say that this woman is abusing the company?

Depression is a serious illness. While she might have been able to go back to work, I'm not one to judge, and neither is the insurance company. If they suspected she was okay, they should at least have made her go see the doctor for re-evaluation before cuting the money.

nonxcarbonx - Canadian medical coverage does not extend to replacement pay while you are off, chiropractors and other items. Pretty much anything for which you would go to the Emergency Room or see an MD is covered. For example if you have a heart attack all your treatment is free, but if you are off work for 6 months while you recover you have to talk with your employer and insurance company about disability coverage to replace your pay while you convalesce.

Her depression diagnosis was probably covered, but her replacement pay was likely coming from a Long Term Disability plan purchased through her employer.

What this article FAILS to mention, is that this woman was on disability from work due to "severe depression" and "anxiety"... FOR OVER 2 YEARS!!! I mean, REALLY.... REALLY?!?! This is just absurd, and she's just mad because the free ride is over. Now she is going to say that the insurance company harassed her, and caused more depression, and she will probably win a lawsuit, but god I HOPE NOT.

A friend of mine fired a temp because the moron had pics of himself at a party smoking a joint and other inappropriate activities. Then the HR crew started going over peoples Myspace/Facebook profiles and cracking heads.

Anyone dumb enough to post that kind of stuff where anyone can see it deserves what they get. The lower the presence on the web the better in my opinion. When I type my name in Google for a search some kid who plays football in Ohio comes up and I am very glad about that.

Really?
Smoke pot at my workplace and I'd fire you, but on your own time, do smoke whatever you please.

Sure, it's posted publically, but we do need to respect others privacy...

Also, can I get paid leave for being stressed out? Sooo tempting...

@euphoria Let me tell you, that my mother in law also suffer from severe depression. But she is no claiming any disability for depression, she was able to work with somewhat discomfort even under the influence of the Extreme Severe Depression. She didn't want to milk the insurance or the government. But now that she really need it she is not able to get it, and some lazy ass lady that is party all the time is able to get it.

for your update (There are medication to address Severe Depression under doctor prescription .

Prozac), sertraline (>Zoloft), paroxetine (>Paxil), escitalopram (Lexapro), duloxetine (Cymbalta), and citalopram (>Celexa). Generic fluvoxamine and nefazodone.

My best friend's suffering from depression, and whilst your mother in law might be able to work full time, not everybody is. My friend's been studying off and on for the past 6 years or so ; the depression makes him moody and incapable of concentrating along with the obvious lack of motivation it usually sports too.
Medication might help remove the symptoms, but you need a shrink to cure the depression itself.

To all you people who want to have a go at people with serious depression and say nasty things like "get over it". It's morons like you that almost deserve to have someone really close to you die from the condition to make you realise the severity.

Depression is a medical condition which is the result of a physical chemical imbalance in the brain, and has nothing to do with "happyness" or "sadness". In a sense, the term "depression" to describe how these people feel is probably no entirely accurate.

To give you a basis of comparison: imagine you just accidentally ran over a group of about 20 children in your car and killed every single one of them. That shock, fear, despair, self-hate and total darkness you'd feel should be then multiplied by 20x and that is close to the awful feelings people with depression deal with when they are going through a phase. It comes out of nowhere and cannot be helped. It's utter darkness, nothingness.

Perhaps if some of you spent a little time actually looking it up instead of acting all macho then you probably won't come accross as the ignorant f**ks you are.

Are people on here seriously defending an insurance company terminating coverage w/o notice or doctor re-evaluation? From what I've read, her DOCTOR diagnosed severe depression and her DOCTOR recommended the vacation. It doesn't appear that she asked for it. I'm not 100% sure what Canadian law considers fair insurance business practice, but if those Facebook pictures aren't dated or aren't recent I imagine the insurance company would have a hard time defending its actions. -- and for the record, chronic depression IS a serious mental/emotional condition.
