Zenbook Zombie after sleeping with USB device plugged in. fix??

we have two Asus UX305FA notebooks running windows 10. one works flawlessly, the other not so much.
several times the annoying one has ended up in a zombie state after going to sleep, and the choices for getting it back seemed to be either:
- leave it for days til the battery finally reaches a desperate state, after which the AC charger will remedy the problem: plug in, turn on, it will resume or boot.
- remove about 25 screws from the back, unplug the battery, wait, plug, go.

the problem MAY be related to one particular device: one of those little phone-charge battery sticks. at least clearly once, that thing was using one of the zenbook ports to recharge from, was left, while the user gone the zen went to sleep, and upon returning, it was Zombie. power button totally unresponsive. long press, short press, very long press, whatever. with ac adapter, same story. had to remove back, reset power.

how to prevent this? I do not know for dead certain whether this NEVER has happened when nothing at all were plugged into the USB ports. searching the web very OCD, I can find no pattern of this problem in UX305FA. in fact it may be one of the least problematic laptops asus ever made [they made some clunkers]. it has me stumped.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Open Power Options then click on Change Plan Settings then Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Expand Hard Disk then set Turn off Hard disk after to NEVER.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hyrbid sleep to OFF.
- Set Hibernate after to NEVER.
- Do also set Sleep Mode to Never.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If all these will not work, last option would be to reinstall Windows.

reinstalling won't help. wash/rinse/repeat.
the steps above might help, if we only knew the EXACT circumstances under which the zombie occurs. the user is non-technical, but believes the one consistent fly in the ointment was that he was using the laptop to recharge a portable charger pack that he uses for his iphone. so that battery device was plugged into a usb port when the system entered sleep and/or hibernation mode. the whole event left not a trace in the system events log, which is frustrating. had to pay a tech to open the back, pull the batt connector, flush, reconnect.
