Boy reading your posts does say a lot, about freespace 3, right on, Freespace 2 started to get real Babylon 5 ish... With the beam weapons of the capitol ships. That was super. I used to make up some huge battles with the game editor but got so carried away with more and more that the game play slowed to a crawl. With a top of the line today computer man could they really make a kick butt game out of that. To bring back that dreaded alien and really have it out to see if mankind would survive.. It could really sell, It had the right idea as it got better and could have been carried on a few more games.

Zork: "A remake clearly begs for a graphical game. This was a game born on dumb terminals, after all. Because it was text, people didn't get the real immersion of "the ruins of an ancient empire lying far underground."

... really?

It's like books that are made into movies - there's no graphics card, no machine around that can create the graphics and the *world* I can create in my head reading the descriptions - both what's there, and what's not. Even the hand-crafted "maps" helped get you more into the game - I think, at the time, I remembered more of what was going on there (and my mistakes making the maps!) than the worlds of today's "Just hit M and follow the waypoint."

Elite, the greatest game of all time or how about Xenon 2 for some blasting fun!

I'll add my vote for Master of Magic. My brother and I both spent long hours with that game over the years. It was amazing in its time for its complexity and level of engagement.

I remember Wizardry. MABADI, TILTOWAIT, Murphys Ghost, Creeping Coins, etc. Make a bishop, enter the maze, camp, identify item #9 (even if you didn't have one), and eventually get an experience counter negative rollover to the maximum amount possible, then sleep at the Temple of Cant until you get tired of hitting the key or reach level 255.

And don't forget the legendary Identify 9 bug.

I got a loan from a bank for $2k just to buy an Apple IIe so I could play Wizardry. Drawing the
dungeon maps took forever but I do remember how much I loved it.

Oh come on Tom's, Wing Commander but no FreeSpace 2???

FS2 manages to run on Win 7 64-bit as well! And the SCP is great. *Curses Interplay*.

Ancient art of war .... speedball (original not 2nd). ..

and from amiga days - moonstone

We need Wizardry 9!!!!!
Hopefully Japan exports the Wizardry MMO here soon.
