1080i vs. 1080p

I have a Samsung rear projection hdtv that is 1080i (circa 2006). I want to use Apple TV on it (1080p). Is there any way I can change settings on the TV to make it compatible? Apple support says no, but I thought I'd ask to see if theres a way. Thanks.

Holding menu and up arrow together for 6 secs should enter the mode to cycle resolutions. Your TV and the AppleTV should work at 720P - according to Apple's website - it can display in 720P or 1080P. Since your TV can't display 1080P, you would be stuck with 720P on your TV.

The TV should be ok with the 1080p signal, and automatically down the resolution to 1080i. Have you tried plugging it in?

Unfortunately, I've tried both of these fixes. Didn't work.

Picky TV!

What about trying the "Analog hole?" If your TV has a VGA input, could try an HDMI to VGA adapter.
