I am interested in a DTS copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick.
Let me know if you have one you're willing to part with :)

Hi there. I just read that this release was announced but later cancelled
and never manufactured.

There it is. One can dream, but it doesn't make it so!

There has never been a release of 2001 with DTS audio, this includes both of
the DVD releases.

However it has played in theaters in DTS 5.1. Not that much different
than the Dolby 5.1 mix on the DVD, the music score did sound a bit more
opened up on the DTS mix but its not a huge difference.

Hopefully this rumored Special Edition DVD will have that DTS 5.1 mix
on it, but know that it is coming from Warner I doubt that will happen.

Wouldn't 2001 be coming from MGM?

It is still certainly possible, as MGM managed to grace "Thunderbirds Are Go"
and "Thunderbird 6" with DTS soundtracks on DVD. - Reinhart

No as Warner now owns "2001."

The Arclight theater out here in Los Angeles showed 2001 last year in "the
dome" (which is AMAZING). I'm not sure about the soundtrack but I know they
played it from a remastered 70mm print, and this theater has a tremendous sound
system. I imagine it's amazing.

Theatrical DTS is not the same as home DTS. Two different codecs by the
same company.

That is true, I do tend to forget that. However I wouldn't think it would be
hard to do a home DTS version, but I don't think I'll be running out to buy
a DTS DVD release of the film unless its the rumored Special Edition.
