720p vs 1080i

I have a 42LG3000 monitor.It is HD ready and does not support 1080p.However it does support 1080i.Should I set it to 1920x1080 or 1280x720 ?
Moreover,if I buy a PS4 and connect it to this TV will it show 720p or 1080i?

i would always say the native resolution is the way to go. so 720p

I would run it in 720p. I think you will get a more consistent image, and it will still look great. I play PC games and PS3 on my old 37" 720p LCD TV and they look very good.

720p. 1080i is kinda weird and doesn't look very good.

on computer ? use 720p
on console ? use 1080i

reason? pretty much the whole tv world is 1080i everything is optimized for it
on computer ? computing world went with p since your unit doesn't support 1080p
natively go with 720 p for computer
and no I don't recommend using 720p on console if you will use a tv .tv are highly optimized for 1080i now a days
where you ll face issue ?is if you stream . stream is pretty much p even tho we never had or have the bandwith to begin with ( we still don't ) tv industry was threated as noob for using 1080i .you know what tv industry is right (still) 1080i is the best compromise for tv ) and will be for the next 10 years

go check on xbox one or ps4 . you rarely see game in 1080p why ?because it take too much resource
in 1080i you get 720p size and 1080p quality .and no 1080i doesn't look worst then 1080p .the artifacting is caused by hardware and or software .properly set your system will give as good quality at your end and if you stream will send much higher quality to viewer!

720p is better for motion. 1080i has a bit more detail on static images. Overall if your TV is 720p native then you would set your devices for that setting. Otherwise the TV is just going to convert them to 720p anyway. If the native source is SD or 1080p however then the choice is based on whether the TV or the device has the better up or down conversion. You would have to try it both ways to see which is better.
