Does anyone know if I can use my Pioneer VSX 830 with an "old" 4 speaker audio set up? I dont want surround sound.
What I actually want to do is have 2 speakers in the basement and two speakers upstairs and have the ability to play either pair alone or all 4 together. Like the old receivers that had the a-b selection

Solution
You need to add an external speaker selector and connect it to the front speaker connection on the receiver. Set the receiver to stereo.
When you play them all together one pair may be too loud so you can connect an external speaker level volume control to the pair that are too loud. That can go in the remote location if needed. You can also get the speaker selector with volume
controls built in.
