A third of my touchscreen is unresponsive on my Sony Windows 10

The whole screen is displaying everything clearly, but if I touch the middle of the screen from top to bottom there's absolutely no response. The computer isn't detecting any input from the entire middle section of my screen.

Is this a software fault or a hardware fault?
I thought it may be a software fault as a computer would most likely reject any faulty hardware.
