I want to buy a new laptop but confused which processor I should go for.
i5 laptops with dedicated graphics card are costly and not within my budget.
but Lenovo Essential G505S (59-380131) which comes with A10 5750M cpu is within my budget.

My question is which one is good? i5 4200U or A10 5750M
I didnt used AMD cpu before. currently using i5 3550 cpu in my desktop.

And is that lenovo laptop have dedicated graphics or only the integrated one??

Solution
That may be true.

I had a 1st gen APU laptop, it was a Samsung with an A6-3410MX Llano. It was a great laptop, i installed it 2x2GB 1600MHz AMD RAM Entertainment Edition and it ran many games quite well like Crysis 2 at 720p Ultra-high. But the only problem was the heat, but i bet that was Samsung's fault. The laptop had almost no ventilation, the APU vent holes were really small. And the only vent holes were the ones for the APU, there were no other vent holes. The APU temps were 92°C with heavy work.

However, that APU was a 45W TDP, the A10 you want is a 35W TDP and is a 3rd gen APU with better power management.

Yes, my experience with the AMD APU was not perfect, but it wasn't bad. The performance difference between the A6-3410MX...

What are you going to do with it?

If you want to play games, you'll have more chances of a decent gaming experience with AMD A10 laptop. Just Upgrade the memory to a dual channel kit 1600 MHz (or more freq).

The Lenovo Essential G505S with the A10-5750m has an integrated Radeon HD 8650g grpahics core. The Radeon HD 8650g is a little more powerful than nVidia GT 720m / 820m. It is more powerful than the Intel HD 4400. The Intel HD 4400 is weaker than the Nvidia GT 710m.

From a CPU standpoint, at the same clock speed and number of cores Intel CPUs are more powerful than AMD. I would say by 40% (if not more) since desktop Intel CPU cores are about 30% more powerful and AMD's Bulldozer CPU cores. AMD's APUs are weaker than AMD's CPUs when it comes to raw CPU performance.

However, the A10 does have 4 cores vs. 2 core + Hyper Threading that the Intel Core i5-4200u has. In certain tasks the AMD APU can perform better than the Intel Core i5, but certainly will not win all the benchmarks.

In terms of games you want the laptop with the more powerful graphics and that is the A10.

Mainly I will buy it for developing. But its not like that I will not play game. I will play but not like a gamer. So what you think will be best?? If you want to suggest any other laptop then please suggest.

Software development is not my forte, but I would say that Intel should be better when compiling programs due to very IPC (instructions per clock) processing. If the compiling programs you use can take advantage of Hyper Threading, then getting a laptop with a core i5 would be even better.

It seems the Lenovo G505s model you stated is only sold in India. I am not familiar with laptop prices there. What I can say is if you can afford a laptop with the "M" designation in the Haswell generation Core i5-4000 series (like the i5-4200M), then you should go with that for better performance. "U" model CPUs are low power consumption CPUs. You get longer battery life but reduced performance. "M" model CPUs are clocked higher and they come with the Intel HD 4600 graphics core instead of the Intel HD 4400.

The Intel HD 4600 is around 15% - 20% more powerful than the Intel HD 4400, but it is still less powerful than the Radoen HD 8650g.

You are from India??
Ok I'm going to buy from Flipkart.

I really love to buy this one

Yes I know DELL is the worst. but why not HP? My friends says they get good customer service from HP.

HP and Dell do not provide info or give good after sales advice from what I've seen in this forum.

No - I'm an Aussie.

From http://www.flipkart.com/q/lenovo-laptops for about 40000inr ($600US) I also like an i5 and a discrete graphics card but there are none with discrete cards even for twice the price.

So I suggest you get that one Lenovo Essential G505S that you chose. You do not have good Lenovo laptops in India for a reasonable price.

I have no problem with the specs of that G505s. but I heard that AMD get too much heat. And this laptops review also says that. So I want to know how much heat it generates.
I used a dell which I cant even take in my lap after 30min use. So I will not go for like that. And for that if I dont get dedicated graphics then ok I have to compromise that. :(

Yes, my experience with the AMD APU was not perfect, but it wasn't bad. The performance difference between the A6-3410MX and my actual Ci5-3210M is imperceptible for the use i give it, even on gaming. The only perceptible difference is, of course, the temps, which are lower. But we're talking about a 1st gen A6 APU vs a 3rd gen Core i5.

I don't think you'll have much problem with the A10 APU, but you're comparing it with a 15W TDP Ci5 4th gen ULV (ultra low voltage), so the temps should be significantly lower and also you should have a longer battery life.

Yes I also agree with it. But do you have any information about A10 heat?
